Transcending Stillness

Psalm 46:10

…He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”…

“Be Still.”

Commanding Invitation

We too often fight or forget.

But to children on the brink of coming undone,

Such an Authoritative Beckoning

Is a blessed gift.

Merry-go-round ride in motion.

A carousel of cares and petitions

Has made us dizzy and despairing.

How we presume upon your patience

To wait until we grow weary of the ride.

We desire to transcend thoughts of “me and mine”.

Leave this clamorous

Amusement Park of All That Does Not Really Matter

And think on YOU.

YOU, with power to animate inertia,

Spoke obscure chaos into order

With architect’s arduous care.

YOU amassed molecules with greatest design,

Commissioning them

To spin, revolve, renew, radiate,

Reproduce, hydrate and heal.

Clean, calm, split, fuse and rest.

Complexity beyond comprehension,

From microorganisms to the Milky Way,

Awe-inspiring handiwork that speaks of  even richer things:

Complicated Creator-Love

That tapped the deepest reservoir of care

To consider and accomplish redemption

For your weary, wandering children,

Prodigals, every one.

Let us think on YOU.

The great I AM

Your purity and power

Of person and purpose

Beyond compare.

May we offer up a sacrifice of praise

Not for what YOU do,

But for who YOU are:

The One True God,

Who spoke worlds into motion,

Maintains the universe,

And, most miraculous of all,

Bought and bears the ransom for my soul.
