We Remember

Golden Gate National Cemetery

We remember you today.

Whether your sacrifice came

Last week

Or several centuries ago,

Whether you were called up

Or joined up,

Whether you served

As pilot, commander, or cook

In humid jungle heat

Or frigid mountain cold-

You went

And you stayed

Where war

In all its

Shades of complication

Required you to be,

And we acknowledge you today.

We contemplate

Your courage

And mourn your loss.

We remember you.

Dedicated to my uncle, Dennis Kramer, who served and died in Vietnam as part of the United States Marine Corps.  Though I never met him, I know how much he was loved and missed by my family. I honor him and send a hug to my dad and my uncles who remember him today. We remember with you.
